Homework for March 19
All classes:
I am going to show you a portion of Barack Obama's "A More Perfect Union" speech in class today, which was delivered on March 18, 2008 in Philadelphia, PA. If you have access to a computer, I'd like you to watch the speech in its entirety again. Click this link to see a YouTube version of the speech.
If you cannot access the speech at home or in the library, you may use your class notes to write a short essay explaining how you think this speech relates to Jim Crow laws, segregation, and the setting of the books we are reading in your classes (Sula, To Kill a Mockingbird, and "Fences."
First and second periods, read Act 1, scene 2 of "Fences."
Fifth and ninth periods, read Chapter 2 of To Kill a Mockingbird.
Seventh and eighth periods, read "1919" of Sula.
